Overwhelmed

Yes, I know it has been a while since I blogged. Every time I think about blogging I am always afraid I won't have anything to say. But whatever, I'm throwing that aside...for now.

Today at work one of Gus' teachers came to tell me that he felt warm and had a low-grade fever. This was not entirely surprising because he tugged on his ears a bit and didn't sleep well last night. The thing about my child is that he hardly ever stops playing! He's not one to lay around even when his last ear infection cause the doctor to say "whoa!" when he looked in his ears. When I went in his classroom he was, of course, going up and down his favorite climber toy. I looked at him and I instantly knew he didn't feel well. One of his ears was bright red and he just had that look like "uhhh, am I awake or asleep?". We went to the doc and she diagnosed him with an ear infection. Again. This is his third one in two months. He's gotten these since he started school full-time in Feb. Not totally uncommon, I just don't like seeing him sick. On my way out I scheduled a follow up for next week to see if his ears are getting better. I tried filling his script at the new pharmacy in town and it was super fast and the pharmacist was very friendly. Thank you Aunt Claudi for the recommendation.

When we got home we ate a snack and played. Then I got a call saying that a child in Gus' class has Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease. Great. This illness is highly contagious so I was surprised that he didn't have any sores. Well, then I looked inside his mouth. Bingo. Not only does my sweet boy have a double ear infection but he also has HFMD. I touched his tongue to make sure the spots were raised and he cried for about five minutes so I know that they are hurting him. He then climbed up on my lap and laid his head on my shoulder for about thirty minutes before falling asleep. Now I know he REALLY doesn't feel well. I must confess that I like the cuddly part of Gus being sick. I would still rather him feel well though.

So, I guess this means I (or a combination of Josh, my mom and me) won't be at work for the next few days.

Dear Gus,
I love you so much! I hate when you feel bad but I'm glad that we have access for good care for you. When I think of children who don't have the same access I feel sad. When I think of their parents I feel sad too. I am so thankful for you and I will snuggle you as much as you need. Rest well tonight and I will see you in the morning.
Love, Momma

Christmas Present Review

Since 2005 I have owned and loved this pair of Dansko shoes.

I used to think that these were fashionably not an option for me. Ever. But as I've matured I have come to the realization that there is value in comfort and practicality. I was a grad student with an internship and a part time job. These worked for everything! They probably saved some of my relationships because of this equation: uncomfortable shoes + lots of walking/standing = very sore feet, which also = very bad mood!!

The sad day came when Gus was 8 weeks old and we were returning from our trip to meet my family. As I was carrying my shoes out the door to return to KY my stepmother, Pam, commented that she really liked them. That was my last memory of my beloved Dansko's. When we got home I could not find them!! It was a sad twist of fate. Well that may be a little dramatic but you get the point.

Fast forward to Christmas 2009. Josh bought me a new pair of Dansko's JUST like my old ones!! He went over the price limit but I really appreciated the sentiment. He's sweet. I've been thinking, however, that I need to spice these up a bit. I am very attracted to the red patten leather (big shocker for those of you who know me) but I don't think they would be as versatile. SO I have chosen (drum roll please).........

these Tooled Leather Black Clogs. Can you see the detail? I think it adds a little umph. Also, I like that they are kind of shiny. I still have to send my others back to Zappos (love Zappos) and order these from Dansko. Friends & Readers, what do you think? Can't wait to take my feet home...yes, dramatic again.

It's been a while...

since I have blogged. I have been contemplating this whole blogging thing and I think that I will just start again and see how it goes.

Since I last blogged I have earned my Masters degree, had a baby, and celebrated 5 years of marriage to my all time BFF! There have been many other happenings but those are the most notable. I will probably write a lot about being a mom (which I LOVE by the way) to my 11 month old but I also going to try to blog about this year which is the year that I turn 30!

On November 4th I will make my grand entrance into my 4th decade of life....yes, I had to think about that but year 30 means the completion of 3 decades. Right? Anyway, there are some things I would like to accomplish in year 29. I reserve the right to add anything to the list and respectively take something off...but ONLY if I have REALLY attempted the task. And I will be the judge of that but I promise to make an honest judgement.

On my list so far:
* Get a bikini wax (just wondering what it's like)
* Lose 30 lbs (seemed like a good number)
* Complete a half-marathon (definitely doable)
* Make a quilt for someone special (never made one before, or really sewn anything for that matter. Except when I was in Home Economics I made a bag. It was quite a feat with my lead foot pushing the peddle on the sewing machine.)
* Get a tattoo (but only if I find the perfect design. Those things last forever!)
* Start blogging again

There are a few other items that I am contemplating but I would really like your input. Ultimately I will pick things that are actually achievable and that resonate with me in some way. What else do you think should go on my list?? I'm pretty sure if Angela sees this she will say sky diving. That is on my contemplation list ;).

Ok so maybe I should also show you the contemplation list.
Here it is:
* Learn to play a song on the guitar (not much musical ability flowing through these veins. Although I don't know why because in Elementary School my music teacher requested that I join the "Highly Abled Music Students", or HAMS group and I really blossomed. Unfortunately it seems as though I did not progress much after this. Bummer.)

*Skydiving
*Shave my head (some of you will not like that)

I'm still thinking. I just really want to use this year to intentionally do some things that I have been meaning to do. Also, I would like it to be fun. So, join me in this journey if you want and let me know if you can come up with some stuff for me to do!! Also, Happy Holiday's!!

The Resurrected Cell Phone

Okay so Josh and I are huge fans of Mexican Food. Two Sunday's ago, we weren't really in the Mexican mood but we were both really hungry and it seemed like there was nothing else to choose from. We went, ate, had a good time, you know, all the stuff we normally do at a restaurant until...I went to the bathroom. Everyone who has eaten Mexican food knows that it can do a number on the average stomach, this is why my mother-in-law carries gas pills (for which I am extremely grateful)!

I had already done something stupid by committing to something for the wrong date! I was trying to straighten out my mess via text messaging so I took my phone with me to the bathroom. I went into the first stall, sat my phone on the back of the toilet, and realized that there was some mysterious liquid on the floor. Well, I was wearing my very fun red velvet pants, and not wanting to get the grossness on them, I took my phone and abandoned the stall. My next destination seemed to be cleaner so I decided to park it there. I followed the same routine with my phone, turned around to get toilet paper coverage for the seat and turned back around just in time to see my phone slip and fall into the dark hole at the bottom of public restroom toilet. I dropped to my velvety knees as I recited a string of curse words in my head. Not only did I have to dip my hand into the clear pool of invisible germs, but I had to DIG! DIG my phone out of that tiny hole that swallows human feces! I got it!

When I got back to the table Josh asked me what was wrong, yes he's pretty good at knowing that scowl on my face. I told him the story and he immediately burst into laughter (it would have been a different story had it been his phone) and claimed he was glad we took out insurance on my phone! I was still less than happy that I would have to pay $50 for the same stinkin phone that I already had. I played with the battery but every time the battery was in the phone it just vibrated constantly! Finally, I was at peace with the fact that I would be phoneless and $50 poorer.

On the way home I stuck my lips directly into my pot of lip gloss to aid my chapping lips. Josh looked at me and asked me if that was sanitary. I told him that I thought it was a lot more sanitary that rubbing my lips with the same finger that dove down into a damn public toilet! Laughter again.

I got up the next morning to go to Verizon. I put the battery into my phone...no vibrations. I dared to turn it on...it lit up! It worked perfectly fine!! I ran to the bathroom to disinfect it for about 15 minutes until I let it touch my face. I feel very lucky that my cell dried out and decided to let me use it again, however, I won't be canceling my insurance anytime soon...this kind of stuff is in my blood.

Who said dishwashers don't discriminate?

OK, let me preface this story by saying that Josh and I are really busy. We both go to school and work so when it comes to other things in life, such as buying supplies for our home, we are sometimes lacking. We let all of the dishwasher detergent (I wasn't the last one to used it but whatever) run out and didn't get anymore. Well the dishes piled up for about a day and a half and we kept forgetting to get the stupid detergent. Well, I was home from school getting ready to go to work and I thought, oh I know, I'll just put some dish soap in the dishwasher and it will be like a mixture of hand washing and machine washing! Brilliant right? I know. Well the dishes cycled through and didn't really come out clean so at most I thought, hmmm, my experiment didn't work, no biggie. So, I did the rest of the dishes by hand and made ANOTHER mental note to get more detergent. So yesterday Josh got some detergent and started to run the dishwasher. We were getting ready to leave for school and I hear loud roaring sound and then a string of profanity come from the kitchen. I ran in to see what was going on and there was Josh straddling the floor and a mountain of soap suds in between his legs. Well it was all I could do not to roll on the floor laughing but I knew he was mad so I tried very hard to contain myself. Josh and I are different. See, in situations like this, I see you are straddling the floor with soap suds all around! That's funny right? But Josh sees the dishwasher is broken, we will have to pay for it, we won't get our deposit back...not so funny, right? So anyway we got some towels to soak up the suds and headed off to school only to later worry about the evil machine.
Being the fix-it-yourself guy Josh is, he researched a sudsy dishwasher on the net and figured out how to fix it. It was a funny (to me) process but it worked. Josh saved the day! So for those of you who are wondering...dish soap and dishwashers are not friends. They are like lions and antelopes, oil and water, rain and a good hair day, etc. I'll just chalk it up to yet another newlywed lesson.

My First Blog

Hello Everyone! Welcome to my blog...this is funny. I've named my blog Internal Monologue because -as it has been so graciously pointed out- mine comes out from time to time. This may make me seem scattered but really it's just my way of processing things. So, now I will try to process things on my blog! Plus sometimes weird or funny things happen to me so I guess I can write about those too! Have a good day!
